VILLA FLORA

respect for authenticity to rediscover beauty

cernobbio (co) _ CER
2021 - 2024
main villa _ loggia, solarium and garden
480 sqm living space

the ultimate intent of the project for villa Flora has always been, since the very first site visit, to enhance the authenticity and charm of this extraordinary property with long-standing origins.

the villa, located in close proximity to the historic center of Cernobbio, dates back more than 200 years and has remained in the ownership of the same family for the past century. simply standing at the entrance gate of the garden, one immediately perceives a delicate and pure atmosphere, echoing from another time.

after the Second World War, many villas underwent modernization interventions that altered their original appearance. Villa Flora was no exception: all internal and external frescoes were painted over in white, the stone staircase met the same fate, and the valuable terracotta floors were covered with linoleum and glued carpets. the most significant achievement of the project was restoring the house to its authentic identity as a countryside residence shaped by over 200 years of history.

the approach to the restoration of the property was entirely conservative; more precisely, following the removal of elements and details that did not reflect the authenticity of the building, the intervention was guided by the intention to enhance spaces characterized by refined environments rich in detail and valuable local materials.

from an architectural and structural perspective, the project proposed to create a direct spatial connection between the three rooms on the ground floor to the right of the central staircase — once used as dining room, kitchen and pantry — transforming them into a single environment dedicated to cooking and shared living, in close relationship with the garden, which in turn hosts wooden planters for vegetable cultivation, a historic lemon house and an outdoor dining and relaxation area.

newly renovated is the service core, arranged on each floor with access from the intermediate landing of the central staircase or directly from the master bedroom. these spaces have been enriched and enhanced by new large-format coverings — 300 x 120 cm — in onyx and marble by Marazzi, one of which also includes a spacious steam bath finished with mosaics by Bisazza.

as for the ground floor rooms to the left of the central staircase, the staircase itself, the first-floor bedrooms and the attic level, original materials were recovered, including floors, ceilings, frescoes and hidden authentic elements such as the fireplace and the built-in library cabinetry.

the lady of the house has further enriched the interiors with masterpieces by Aqua Creations — elegant lamps with soft shapes and varying dimensions, contributing to the creation of a unique and sophisticated atmosphere.
