DIMORA MARIE
lakeside residence designed for the gathering of an entire family
cernobbio (co) _ pza
2020 – 2023
single-family residence _ two residential units, tavern, garden
1,090 sqm plot – 560 sqm living space
The location of the plot enhances the sense of wonder for those who experience it, revealing the soft contours and refined landscape of the first basin as seen from above. the light — pure, intense and calm — envelops the property throughout the day. the view is broad and far-reaching, embracing the surrounding context. vegetation, in all its forms, accompanies both the eye and the spirit into an exclusive dimension.
The existing building is not of historic origin and had long been deprived of maintenance and care; it is characterized by contextual additions dating back to the 1970s.
The renovation challenges elements from another era lacking historical value, preserves the existing volume and its primary balance between solid and void, and enhances natural light and the relationship between interior and exterior through the use of contemporary elements with a clean and understated aesthetic.
The interior design and furnishing choices were co-developed in close collaboration with the owners, favoring generous spaces, full-height doors and neutral tones in warm shades of brown.
The redesign of the outdoor areas offers the opportunity to fully utilize the land across multiple levels, combining permeable paving, planted areas and spaces dedicated to greenery and vegetation. the rear of the villa is designated as an access and parking area; the porphyry terrace at ground level, directly connected to the tavern, serves as a dehor for sharing and relaxation; the garden on the lower levels is designed as a solarium and play area.
The project proposes the division of the entire volume into two residential units, intended for two generations of the family; the creation of a shared space — the tavern — for gathering and spending time together; and the inclusion of an additional service area dedicated to shared wardrobes — the attic level. all four levels are connected by an elegant central staircase and a private elevator with direct access from the main entrance on the southern façade of the building.
Dimora Marie can now boast a renewed and fresh identity, defined by a complete reinterpretation of the existing property in a contemporary key. expansive glazing, views over the lake, and “infinite” balconies defined by glass railings shape a new aesthetic — a new chapter in a family story set against the backdrop of Lake Como.
